Quick answers to the questions we hear most. For step-by-step help, see How to Play.
Playing
Is Fib Fact free?
Yes. Fib Fact is free to play, with no sign-up and no in-game purchases. The site may show adverts to help cover running costs.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. It runs in your web browser on phones, tablets and computers. Just open the site and play. You only type a name, and even that is optional on one device.
How many people can play?
On one device, one to four players take turns. Online, two or more players can join the same game, normally up to eight.
How long does a game take?
A solo game of ten questions takes two or three minutes. An online game with friends usually takes about five.
What’s the difference between Easy, Medium and Hard?
Easy is everyday knowledge with obvious fibs. Medium uses believable near-misses. Hard is full of popular myths and surprising truths. See Choosing a difficulty.
Is it suitable for children?
The questions are general knowledge and written to be family-friendly. Easy is a good place for younger players to start. As with any website, adverts are supplied by an ad network, so younger children should play with an adult nearby.
Online games
How do game codes work?
When you create an online game you get a random five-character code that no other live game is using. Friends enter it to join your lobby. The code stays the same if you play again, and it stops working once the game has been idle for a few hours.
Do we need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. Anyone with an internet connection can join using the code or invite link, wherever they are.
Can someone join halfway through?
Not during a round. Once the host taps Start, the lobby closes. After the round, the host can tap Play again and new players can join with the same code.
Can other players see my answer before the reveal?
They can see that you’ve answered, but not what you chose or whether you were right. Everyone’s picks are shown together at the reveal.
What happens if my phone locks or I lose signal?
Come back to the same tab and the game reconnects by itself. Any questions that closed while you were away score zero, but you can carry on from the current one.
Questions and privacy
Where do the questions come from?
They’re written by the Fib Fact team. Each fib comes with the real answer, and many questions include a short note explaining the truth.
I think an answer is wrong. What should I do?
Please tell us which question it was and, if you can, where you read the correct answer. We’ll check and fix it.
Can I suggest questions?
Yes please! Send us the question, an answer, whether it’s a fib or a fact, and the real answer if it’s a fib.
What happens to the name I type?
On one device, names stay in your browser. Online, your name is stored on our server only so other players can see it, and it’s deleted with the game a few hours after it ends. Use a nickname if you prefer. Full details are in our Privacy & Cookies page.
Why are there adverts?
Adverts help keep Fib Fact free. They sit above the game and away from the Fib and Fact buttons, so you won’t tap one by mistake.
